Who

Born in London, UK, and raised in Toronto, Canada, Shari Sharpe is a writer who brings unapologetic humour and an international lens to her work. She began her career in the pandemic, writing features for American television, then directing and producing her first short film. After a few years living in Rome and Los Angeles, she has recently returned to London to write.

Shari’s nomadic lifestyle and globally-sprawling family, coupled with her personal experiences, deeply influence her voice as a writer. Her work explores themes of identity, belonging, and double consciousness, as well as the invisible yet inherent truths of interracial relationships and families. Intersectionality, authorship, and gaze play an important role in her construction of narratives, all to make the audience more self-critical about their expectations of storytelling.

In 2020, Shari was the Pilot Winner of the ScreenCraft Comedy Contest and a winner in the UCLA X Writing Competitions. In 2025, her directing work on her short earned her a nomination for Women X Film Festival’s Rising Star Award.

Her certificate in Screenwriting at UCLA Extension complemented a successful academic career, where she earned a BA at the University of St Andrews, an MSc at the London School of Economics, and an MA at USC Annenberg.
